James Dean Vogel, P.E.

Jim Vogel is a recognized subject matter expert in bioprocessing and biotechnology, with more than 36 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries.

Jim has worked as a Director, Project Manager, and Engineer (Plant Support, Process Development, Project and Automation) with Amgen, GlaxoSmithKline, ImClone, Sanofi-Pasteur, Lipton and Avon. As lead designer for a $700 million, large scale biopharmaceutical plant, he directed numerous facility renovations including upgrades to the buildings, process equipment, utilities, and laboratories.

Jim’s expertise lies in all areas and all levels of engineering, management, and cGMP, including single-use applications. He has troubleshot plant operations for both process and utilities and has helped with organizational structures and staff development. One key area of his expertise is performing risk assessments for both operational and engineering systems.

Mr. Vogel has served as URI’s Director of the Pharmaceutical Development Institute, and as an Adjunct Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers BioProcess Equipment (ASME-BPE) Standard Committee, a former Chairman of the ASME-BPE Sealing Components Subcommittee, and a current member of ASTM, BPSA, NAHAD, ISPE and the PDA.

He is a licensed professional engineer in NJ, has a Masters of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College, and a Bachelor’s of Science in BioChemical Engineering from Rutgers University.
